Do you understand how to linearize a graph?

It's been a while since high school physics for me. I had to brush up with help from google

Does this relate to the temperature graph?

Who are "we"?. You only can do it with experimental data?. Is it not possible to do it with data obtained from reality?.

I think you could try to linearize data from either.

If you want to give a fairly detailed picture of recent trends, set against a much broader picture of long term ones, then the scale has to be uneven, to be seen at a glance. So long as the scale change is clear, all good.

Another way would be keep linear scale and inset detail graph.

Does this relate to the temperature graph?

Yes. Seeing to straight lines instead of curves, makes it easier to compare trends at a glance. The difference in the slope of the lines indicates which one is growing or decaying faster. The different scales also can be used to expand the areas of interest. That is, they take a larger part of the graph and can be studied in more detail.
