Are you familiar with Arneson drives?

Em. I'd say decently familiar. The main difference here is that I'm looking to have a propeller under the hull, not behind it

How are you going to get surface piercing under the hull?
    On foil I guess...

Precisely. Although as the discussion with foils play out- it's kind of a discussion between surface piercing and a supercavitating propeller. Either way, the prop right now would be above the bottom foil so it wasn't the lowest part of the appendages but it may never fully break the surface to 50% immersion. Numbers need to be played with.

If you're concerned about the prop being exposed I think you may have overlooked the vulnerability of your foils.
Have you considered mounting the prop ahead of, but in the foil?

Well not worried so much with the prop striking an object- that could happen to the foils too- but more so if the boat is run slowly through mud, onto a beach, etc- the boat can't sit on the propeller. A fixed hydrofoil should be able to support the weight of the best. Further- I'd rather scrap the bottom of a foil along a log going slow than destroy a prop that thinks it can cleave the log up.
