Yeah. Looks like they "marinized" it by adding a zero to the cost.

I'm old enough to be cynical about these things. My nephew works at a parts place where they sell Mercury parts. Identical part has 2 different prices depending on whether it's going on a car or a boat.

Excellent question Gonzo. I checked, looks like he may have been fibbing. You'd be amazed how often folks pretend they know stuff that they don't.

    Aaaand he was fibbing.

Getting back to this one, and that monster 600hp V12 outboard just announced today, I'd love a 2 speed outboard. Using a simple prop calculator as a starting point I need a 12 by 19 prop running light, and a 12 by 11 fully loaded. Or 2 speed outboards. Or CPPs, but that would be more complex than a multispeed outboard.

You could save some money on props by running light and wide open at all times.

I sure could. But I'd lose at the other end because then I'd have a work boat that couldn't work.

    However, consider the fun factor.

Oh my god yes! Someone told me that I had decided to take her camping on the thousand or so tiny islands around here.
