Looking for Kevlar hull repair service

Hello All,

I am looking for a contractor to repair a catamaran ferry fiberglass hull. The repair will be approximately 100 sq ft; the hulls are made of cross-linked PVC foam core and Kevlar fabric.

The repairs to be done on-site in a yard in the New England area.

Can you please recommend a company to complete the job? or point me in the right direction?

I know that this is 'thread drift', but could you tell us some more about the nature of the damages that were sustained by this ferry?
And do you have any photos available of the damages?

It sounds like the ferry cannot be moved anywhere else, so the repair work will have to be completed where she is presently resting.
What facilities are available at the yard where she is located?
I hope that you will be able to work on her in an enclosed heated shed - that would be vital at this time of year in New England!

 

We have a higher than regular moisture reading on the fiberglass hull. Also, on various spots, crazing of the gel coat is noted. In addition to crazing and spider cracks, minor digs are seen on the hull.
We are looking at replacing anomalies on the hull. Also, re-bedding with possible delamination of the fiberglass in the area around the thru-hull. The repair will be in Connecticut.

 

Thanks for this - it is much less than what I was imagining, based on how you mentioned 100 sq. ft. of repair area - I was having visions of a large section of hull bottom ripped out.
It sounds like you simply need a mobile fibreglass technician?
Have you sounded the hull in way of the through hull fitting?
I would hope that the through hull fitting is in a localised area of single skin - or does it go through the core as well?
