Look. I'm no sailor, but I see no reason to opportune the sea to take over my vessel.

Not sea creatures, not seawater, none of it. I envision this thing constantly filling with barnacles.

And, I see no advantage versus something the drains above wl or can be closed to barnacles. But I erased an early post because I don't understand the current system,

Secondly: Lets say it is, will I run in to legal problems in any way? In my country, Sweden, we sail around in pretty much any old contraption of a vessel and there is no such thing as inspections or legal demands, as long as you dont race or sell boats commercially.
But could I get in to trouble applying for cruising permits in, say, the USA?

The US does not have any regulations on cockpit drains, or almost anything else for sailboats used for recreation (and for some sailboats used commercially).

A concern may be insurance if the insurance company requires a survey.
