Is this a design project at college, or are you looking to design and build a split hopper barge?
Can you supply a bit more details please, like what size / carrying capacity barge you are interested in?
I googled 'design of split hopper barges', and this link was the first that came up - I have not looked at it yet, as I have to sign up to be a member, but it might be useful for you?
This link was second - it has a basic General Arrangement drawing.
Maybe if you contact VL maritime then they might be able to supply you with some more information?

Interesting project. Are you planning to build the barge yourself once the layout is finalized or is this mainly a design exercise for now?
Actually I'm helping a friend who got a project on split barge. We need to see the arrangement of the hinges and hydraulics to have an idea of it then we can proceed to calculation
The "arrangement of the hinges and hydraulics", from a calculation standpoint, is the least important aspect for a naval architect. Once the gyro axis of the semi-hulls is defined, all the calculations can be performed. How will you study stability in the various situations that will arise? What knowledge do you have, and what software do you have access to?
