Converting wooden mast specs to aluminum

Are you replacing an existing wooden mast on the same boat or adapting the original design specs before the build ?

Or you could just use secondhand Laser spars.

That's cheating! ;-)

Also, looking at Garden's Tomcat, it has 1 1/2 feet more beam than a Laser, 54 more square feet of sail area, and the rig goes much higher than the top of the mast. Plus, it looks like there may be room for 3 people sitting on the rail or hiking out. The Laser mast might be good in light air.
