I've done something similar except instead of using a tip tie as the spacer, I've used short sections of fuel or vacuum line hose instead. Also it's important to use the UV and heat resistant zip ties (the stuff electricians use), so they hold up. I've seen cheap zip ties last less than a few months in direct Florida sun. Yes, it is a little tedious to do, but does neaten things up in a cheap and unusual way, which is always cool.

In the ever changing images on the front page of these forums I came across some illustrations with boat part names.

From the Member Album of forum member SmithCraft64.

Edit: - Not all of these boat part names turned out to be correct, please take note of the below posts by forum member PAR regarding this topic.

I see a few errors in those drawings, which seem to be Google downloads and SmithCraft64 hasn't posted in about a decade.

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for bringing this to attention, would you point out the errors in the pics, and post of each pic the number and the wrong names in there + their corrections ?

Or would it be best to remove these pictures all together from this thread ?

Many of the terms are geographic location specific, while others have arrows in the wrong location. For example the second image shows a garboard and sheer "strake" on a carvel build, in which case they'd actually be planks, additionally the upper and lower "fenders' in the western hemisphere would be rubs, rub rails or guards. All four images appear to be the only ones in a quick Google search, under > fernamesake.jpg <, likely a book cover or end plate upload, from a dated, probably European text. The last two images have the same name, just an additional number, with no references under the same Google search. Judging by the font, the hand done "pasteup" and arrow ended lines, it's clear this is an older text, heavily enlarged and an obvious photo copy of the original, possibly several generations removed, judging by the font and line art filling that has occurred.

For a novice, there's something that can be gathered, but there's enough genericness and errors, I'd think it would be best served to replace them with something more appropriate, possibly more in keeping with modern terminology and building methods. As to where you might want to find these images, well there's a pretty famous poster of boat parts that WoodenBoat still sells, though is likely available for free in a Google search, but I know of few, with modern terminology and build methods.
