Looking for recommendations on plans for a 28–31’ power cat.

I’m a charter captain, and during my off-season I build boats. I’m looking to make the switch to a cat for better comfort and speed on rough days.

A typical charter for me can easily be 100+ miles in a day, so efficiency, cruise speed, and rough-water performance are at the top of the list. Ideally, I’m looking for something designed around efficient higher-speed cruising rather than a slow/heavy displacement cat.

I’m based in Central America, where importing a finished boat is an absolute nightmare, so building one locally makes a lot more sense.

I’ve done quite a bit of searching online, but most of the plans I’ve found seem to be 20+ years old. There are definitely some solid, proven designs out there, but with how much power cats have grown in popularity over the last 5–10 years, I figured there must be some newer designs or designers offering updated plans.

Looking for anything in the 28–31’ range. Plans, designers, builds to look into, or even firsthand experience with a particular hull would be greatly appreciated.

Efficiency and ride quality are the priorities. I’d love to hear what you guys would build if you were starting from scratch.

Anything helps. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum Josh.

For a one off boat, aluminium is a good material - do you have facilities to build an ally power cat?
If yes, do any of the boats on the Specmar page look interesting?

Specmar has some solid options but unfortunately where I am located, Aluminum is not a viable option.

Searching for plans to make the plug for a fiberglass mold.
