Looking for plans for nesting dinghy

Hi all.

First I hope this is the right place to ask. I usually hang out in the multihull area. Also I'm basically blind so I'm having a devil of a time searching the internet. I need some help. I'm sorry to have to ask.

I am looking for plans, and you'd think with the hundreds of small boat plans about I'd be able to find something. There are some I might be able to adapt, but since my strokes everything is difficult.

I want to be able to carry a boat on the roof racks. I'd like it to be maybe 12' by 4-5' and take a 4hp, and rowed/paddled in an emergency.

Now most 12' boats I've found are a bit too heavy to lift onto the roof, but I thought if I get a boat that comes apart into an 8' and 4' section it will make it liftable, and it gets around scarphing etc.

You'd think someone would have done this but I can not find a plan. I'm open to prams, pointy bows etc. It will mostly be used in a river but it would be nice if I could use it as a tender.

The reason it needs to be fairly big is the boss is uncomfortable in small boats. I proposed an outrigger canoe but that got a flat no.

So I'm looking for a solution. Preferably easy to build.

I've come across many 8'ish prams, many very nice, but the nesting boats seem to be about 8' aswell. Seems weird.

Anyway any thoughts appreciated.

The Chameleon design by Danny Greene is nice - I built myself a smaller (7'10" LOA) version.

All of them weigh between 50 and 70kg, so you must be prepared to lift 30kg on the car. Another option would be to use a powered device to get the dinghy on the roof, for example an electric winch and a roller sled.

After I posted I had another go searching. I've noticed this before. I'll spend weeks looking for something and as soon as I ask on a forum or email friends I find new stuff.

These seem like quite nice designs, but there is no contact information that I can see and the site says download plans are temporarily unavailable.

Once again he's decided to split it for nesting rather than optimising the ply but without seeing his cutout plan or at least a materials list it's hard to say how efficient he nests. Never the less it's a start. I will look into trying to contact him.

Have you looked at Chesapeake Light Craft? They make the Eastport Nesting Pram which has a sailing option. It's not 12' in length but it's quite roomy with a 4' beam and with it's generous rocker gives a nice dry ride. I'll post a link below. CLC also makes dinghies that nest in the 12' size but I'm not familiar with those. If you were to go this route, I'd strongly recommend buying a kit. The parts supplied in the Eastport Nesting Pram are fairly intricate. I have good woodworking skills but found the parts cut on CLC's computer numeric controlled machine to be flawless. The kit was well worth the extra expense IMO.

Unfortunately last year I had two more strokes it's a bit of a problem.

I bought a boat a while ago.

Unfortunately is very very heavy. I've already broken the mirror on one of my cars And I moved it the other day and damaged my backs really bad. It's pretty heavy. Great boat but so very heavy.

I made one like this. Stripplanked bottom, sides 10mm divinycel but could be done strips also 300gsm biax/epoxy on all surfaces. Lifting keel, mast foot, oars and smal outboard. Three watertight compartments..

I love Dory's, but it needs to be within i sent length and also the lady must be okay.

There are so many good ideas for boats but you can't just use anything.

Dory do not down but they feel like they will and people get upset.

Looking for something 9 to 10 feetI can make strip, probably flat, doesn't need to be fast just good to carry two people maybe some gear to go boat. My street row But would like to carry an outdoor now and then.
