We've got three layers of 1.5 oz CSM on a 20ft mold we're making using a isopthalic tooling resin. We're going to do 12 layers total and probably only have enough resin to do 2 more layers which would be a total of five with the tooling resin. I'm having trouble sourcing more isopthalic tooling resin from my suppliers without waiting. Would the service life of the mold be shortened by using orthopthalic polyester resin for the last 7 layers?

No, but a typical GP resin might be better. It would normally be a DCPD ORTHO blend, which will shrink less and be stiffer than a straight Ortho.

Consider using coremat to bulk it up rather than so many glass layers.
