Yes, that was my thought, observing this old VRO Johnson. But for units where the water just drops out those bottom slots, a plumbed cup could be inserted in the leg above them, and pick up half of that water.

Riding home 2 hours in Serenity, wet from my job. A wimper almost escaped my stoic Canadian visage. Definitely thinking about heat again. Bloody cold when you can't move around.

did you try just routing the tell tale hose into the boat assuming its warm, what model was it again?
Can always add a tell tale if its not from the hot side?

Hi @powerabout . The telltale isn't carrying much heat at all. The majority of the waste heat from the engine leaves through the prop, or drops out of the slots in the bottom of the leg.

    It's a 2014 E-tec 250HO.

This fall and last I've seen a ton of those planner heaters stuffed in a Pelican case. Self-contained and run a long time on a charge and a gallon of diesel. They're so popular there's cheaper versions from Amazon now.

When one of the diesel outboard companies was advertising in the fishing rags early on the advertised having the ability to plumb into coolant water for heaters. Not sure if that feature actually made it past prototypes.

Plastic case, water proof normally, not sure in this situation with the other holes in it.
Normally they have a different hasp closure

The unit looks like an Espar or Erspacher and the black hose with the stainless end is the inlet and exhaust, one inside the other. I have not seen this configuration of a heater in a case but I would imagine that you exhaust this overboard. Ie
the unit stays outside, and you attach a hot air exhaust hose to the outlet that you see on the rhs of the case.

    BlueBell . . . _ _ _ . . . _ _ _

    Ya for $2 000 CDN !
    Straight from the operation manual:
"Heater is provided with airtight exhaust silencer. This mean it can be mounted in small vessels and confined spaces."

I still don't get how this is portable.

    Exhaust installs are pretty important.

Maybe if they have a CO sensor..
