I've seen a couple of Yeoman sink on Rutland Water before now, and that's an inland water.....still it was shallow enough to get them up later!.

Naturally we should not forget the Folkboats too, which quite often seem to win the Round the Island race on handicap rating.

The very early Yeoman were built with no Buoyancy built in ( some put buoyancy bags in under the seats).. Later they had a sealed bow chamber and semi sealed, aft compartment , Later still the side seats became buoyancy chambers and now they have EEC approved anti swap side seats / chambers and mouldings and can take a 90 degree knock down and hardly take on any water. Oh and there was a self draining version which would be my choice, it saves bailing when racing in 40 knots of wind!!

Yep which is why my mini sit in keel boat is very different from a " Mini J", at 16 ft LOA and LWL it has no overhangs because it's designed for sailing on the Norfolk broads and rivers. Long overhangs would mean you can't get as close to the riverbank with the waterline length of the hull, thereby narrowing the river.. Our club start line is 180ft and we race on rivers down to 50ft wide...
