Hey guys does anyone know which stores (specifically in San Diego) that have epoxy primers that I can just get from the store? I need it to prime before painting with a two part polyurethane. Do home depots or Lowes carry epoxy primers typically? Can I use the epoxy primers from auto shops?

Thanks in advance for all the help guys!

Don't bother with the home stores.

Automotive primer would suffice if you spray it. Automotive paint products don't usually brush or roll well.

Hey guys thanks for all the tips! I called around and everyone seems to be out of stock in my location due to supply chain issues. Someone told me I can use epoxy as a primer, is that really true? I thought I had to use an epoxy based primer before painting with a two part polyurethane but if the primer is unavailable can I use regular epoxy?

    Yes.
Neat epoxy can be used as a primer.
It is usually more expensive and is harder sand than primer.

If you're using a 2 part LPU you're paying in the area of $300/gallon. Why are you skimping on the primer which is much less costly? I've used Interlux Perfection for many years. I always use their epoxy prime coat under it. You might, might be able to get away with skipping the primer but I wouldn't do it. At the very least I'd do a test run and see how it comes out. LPU's have some nasty solvents in them. If we all could "get away" with skipping the primer, I'd guess that someone would have figured that out by now.
