If I put a member in my "ignore list" does it prevent him from sending abusive PMs?

Yes, if you place someone on your ignore list, you should not see PMs from them sent while they are on your ignore list.

To make it easier to not be bothered by people who you do not want to read posts from or hear from, if you click a user's name above a post there are now two options in the overlay menu (for logged in members)
    • Ignore: Add this person to your Ignore List
    • Follow: Add this person to your Follow List

Before you had to go to the ignore list and type the person's name or click through from their profile page.

If you choose to ignore a person, their posts will no longer be shown within threads on the forum. Should you decide to change your mind, you can can remove them from the list of "people you ignore" under your account settings.
