Trailable and demountable are not the same thing, especially for catamarans. Trailable generally means expand the trailer make the connections and go sailing maybe 45 minutes to 2-3 hours max. Demountable can mean jinkers for each hull a crane and 2 days assembly time.

The reality that I've noticed is that even trailable mono's tend to get parked at the yacht club the trailer license expires and thats where they live until sold. Another no vote for a sliding system here.I have enough trouble keeping boat hooks and tiller extensions working ! Apart from sand and salt and other debris sun damage on the seals etc etc sliding systems rely on some pretty precise alignment which in real world application is extremely difficult

The cedar hulls were built male, the FRP hulls female, the early FRP hulls were foam sandwich with a vinylester skin, a one off (racing) special was built in 100% VE and post cured. After my departure I believe hulls went to coremat. The FRP hulls also had all glass keel grid and frp interior mould.

And just to be thorough, this phenomenon is magnified when planking in foam.

I worked in a yard in Henderson WA that built 3 strip planked cedar hulls for the Farr 9.2. The last one was used to make a grp mould. This was 1988/9 so details are a bit vague but ...... Being a round voluptuous hull the majority of the planks being square cut left a natural gap to be filled...
