    Tunnel in Hull

The portabrackets set your motor way back and have a ton of travel, good for no-tunnel boats, pair that with a Bob's nose cone and you could still run really skinny without the tunnel. I agree the 400 is overkill but it can be to your advantage if you are carrying heavy loads and want/need a...

    Tunnel in Hull

I'd be tempted to keep the tunnel on that boat.

    Considering Homebuilding a ~50' Catamaran

Good Idea. The land I bought is next to you, in Merritt, I will be moving there in about 3 months to start my build.

    Tunnel in Hull

If you want ability to run shallow, continue the tunnel to the new transom and hang your outboard on a jackplate. But if you want pure speed, the tunnel can rob you of some of that.

    Considering Homebuilding a ~50' Catamaran

If you don't buy a precut cnc kit, then CNC used in a Production workflow will have ALL your bulkheads cut, infused and primed in less than 2 months. Treat it like it's not a big deal to hand draw and cut and you will be taking the first steps down that trail that ensures your project will drag...

    Considering Homebuilding a ~50' Catamaran

If you have a FREE location next to your home, you are at a big advantage. 10 years of rent and insurance would be a project killer but make sure you can get the boat to water once it's built. Not having a good location was the one thing that held me back for years. Two weeks ago I bought 7...

    Function of design

if hauling weight, running skinny are important, then go with a flat hull. The one I built, shown, was amazingly stable because it had an almost 8' beam, low to the water so easy to load stuff, and super shallow running. The more weight you put on it the better it runs lol. I have crossed a...

    Function of design

The boat planes at a slower speed (this is a big benefit to me) - yes, the boat can stay up on plane at slower speeds, this is what I mean. If your boat is intended to plane then rake the sponsons up the same °angle you want the bow to come up but I wouldn't angle them down. I have seen transoms...

    Function of design

Besides all mentioned, very many skinny water flats boats have sponsons. Among other things they serve as a step for waders returning from fishing, keep the stern from digging in when popping out of a hole, slower planing speeds, help contain the raised water level along with a pocket tunnel...

Interesting alloy now available to everyone

A shareholder? Yes right that is what I am James, you found me out!! And your comment about weight is really off base, lightness is very often a consideration. But why beat this thread up anymore, maybe the moderator can delete it since it's clearly not appropriate for the "Materials" forum...

Interesting alloy now available to everyone

Why not just look if you are interested, they aren't hiding anything. The whole flammability thing is covered. Want to ask them about machinability, purchasing options as in finished products or ingots, it's all there. So what is the point of just writing this off as marketing hype? It's a real...

    2nd catamaran kayak build

28 pounds is lighter than my single hull kayak, fun project. Think I would make it wider and turn it into a standup paddlecat fishing craft ))
