Viola was an attempt to create a boat with sailing dinghy performance (and more important handling) but with a canoe planform for easy transport and storage. Hull is 75lbs in the two builds so far. Three rig options. 4.7 and 6.0 laminate sails with single reef that can be applied on shore and 6.3sqm lug which allows reefing on the water down to 3.2sqm for expeditions. After several years of sailing the big squaretop sail for the Viola has been reduced to 5.4sq metres - along with the typical 4.7 size. The 6.3 lug is still a very practical and much used rig because of the reefing I think only a very few sailors will be comfortable with the 6.0. Just for fun, here is a Viola sailing in rough water.
